The Last Modern Architect

We love a weird story, and one of the more peculiar ones we’ve found on our research adventures in Abu Dhabi is an old plan by iconic Brazilian architect Oscar Niemayer to develop a leisure destination on the still undeveloped Lulu Island.

If you know Abu Dhabi then you’ll have a bit of an idea how a Lulu island x Oscar Niemeyer project would have shaken the place up and if you want to understand that a bit more there’s a few little snippets of info online and a book that we can’t get our hands on (put it in our hands if you know who and how) but you can get a glimpse of here.

And all of that is just a tangential intro to recommend this documentary we ran into recently, which gives a beautiful account of why Oscar Niemeyer is an icon and someone who we admire greatly.
I guess anyone who can help design an entire city and define a whole architectural movement is worth understanding a little bit more.
